The pictures of Suffolk, Va are from two different rail fanning trips a
couple of years apart. Suffolk is on the old Virginian mainline that ran
from Deepwater, WV to Norfolk, VA. Most of the pictures are from the area
around the old Virginian train station in downtown Suffolk. Some of the
pictures are of the locomotives at the Suffolk Yard, but a number of the
pictures are scenes and details out area adjacent to the yard. It is my
feeling that the details around the yard, not the tracks and locomotives
that make the scene unique to a specific area. Therefore, when I make rail
fanning trips, I focus on the details that make the area unique. Many other
web sites have all the locomotive pictures one might desire. A couple of
pictures are from the North end of town where another station has been
restored.

This picture is
an old box car that has been converted to storage. It is these details that
make a model railroad look more realistic.

Old building with metal sheathing on the

torn down.
Another old building that has an add on.
Debris outside the same old building. In the
model these details can make the effect.

This is detail shot of NS 6181. If you can tell me why
the SD40-2 have their model number painted on the side, but the GP50 does
not, I would appreciate hearing from you.
This is a detail shot of the front of NS 6198.
This is a shot of a West bound general
freight on the old NW mainline from Suffolk, VA to Petersburg, VA. Notice
that the right hand ditch light is brighter than the left hand. The ditch
lights are flashing as the train approaches the railroad crossing.
