The Cass Scenic Railroad was started as the West Virginia Pulp & Paper company in  Cass West Virginia. Then it was sold to Mower Lumber Company. In 1962, the Mower Lumber company ceased operations of the Cass line and the railroad was taken over by the State of West Virginia. Today the Cass Scenic Railroad is operated as a tourist railroad by the State of West Virginia.
